On Pretty Little Liars, Lucy Hale plays Aria Montgomery, a high schooler who’s loyal to her friends, into older men, and constantly surrounded by drama. In real life, she’s really nice, has great eyebrows, and likes to sing (her country album, Road Between, was released in June). Hale took a break from her recent photo shoot for Mark Beauty’s spring 2015 campaign to answer our questions about her brows—among other things.

What products do you love from the new Mark collection? “There’s one that’s been around for a while called Touch & Glow, and they’re coming out with a coral version, which is really exciting. From the fall collection, I really love the eye palette called I Dream of Glam. It has 16 different colors—a bunch of neutrals and also some fun colors to try.”
What’s your everyday beauty routine? “If I’m not working, I tend to let my skin breathe because I’m always wearing makeup, and I have really sensitive skin. I have a cleanser and moisturizer from my dermatologist that I use, and sometimes I put on retinol. I exfoliate three times a week and get facials a couple of times a month.”
OK, how do you get your brows looking so good? “People are always surprised when I say I do my eyebrows myself. As a kid, I hated my eyebrows, but now I love them. I just pluck them myself, and over the past five or ten years, I’ve been able to get the right shape for my face.”
What about Pretty Little Liars—any beauty tips you’ve learned from the set? “How to apply fake eyelashes. We go through dozens and dozens of them! And I’ve learned to always put eyeliner on my waterline. I have really big eyes, and I’ve found that that really helps them pop more.”
